A2Z restores regular primetime programming

The channel has announced some upcoming changes in its programming grid.

The channel has announced some upcoming changes in its programming grid.

TV network A2Z announced on Sunday that it is now gearing up for the resumption of its regular programming slate on primetime.

Beginning Monday, February 12, A2Z viewers will be able to catch ABS-CBN’s weekday primetime drama serials on the channel, five times a week.

This means that after ‘TV Patrol,’ viewers will be able to watch ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,’ ‘Linlang: The Teleserye Version,’ ‘Can’t Buy Me Love,’ and ‘F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers’ as they become available on A2Z from Monday through Friday, from 8:00 pm onwards.

On Sunday nights, it is likely that current affairs show ‘Tao Po’ will move back to 6:15 pm, as the new season of ‘The Voice Teens’ airs at 7:00 pm, followed by ‘I Can See Your Voice’ at 8:30 pm, and ‘Come and Hug Me’ at 9:30 pm.

As a bonus effect of such changes, ‘Sunday Blockbusters’ and ‘Ipaglaban Mo’ will also be seen on A2Z, preceeding the Sunday edition of ‘TV Patrol Weekend.’

These programming developments come as the Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) enters its homestretch, with the final match-ups pitting corporate sister teams Magnolia Hotshots and San Miguel Beermen.

As for the possible games 6 and 7 of the Hotshots-Beermen finals series — which are scheduled to happen on Wednesday, February 14, and Friday, February 16, respectively — they will be exclusively seen on RPTV.

A2Z became the sole broadcast carrier of the PBA games beginning with the kick-off of the league’s 48th season last November, as former broadcaster TV5 evolved into a full-fledged entertainment and  news channel.

However, the production and technical responsibilities remain with the Kapatid network.

That set-up did not last long, as in December 2023, producer Sports5 and TV5 inked a deal with Nine Media Corporation (NMC) to broadcast the PBA every weekend on CNN Philippines on RPN-9 starting January 6.

The deal between TV5 and NMC later expanded in February, as they joined forces for the new RPTV channel, which replaced the now-defunct news station on RPN’s frequencies.

PBA games, both previous and live matches, are broadcast all throughout the week on RPTV’s late afternoon and primetime blocks.

With RPTV in the picture, TV5 opted to continue screening PBA games on a slightly delayed basis on A2Z’s weekday primetime, while live broadcasts persist for Sunday duels.

It remains to be seen whether A2Z will continue airing the PBA starting the next conference

The restored A2Z Primetime block featuring all four ABS-CBN dramas will begin airing on Monday, February 12.
