On Friday, June 28, GMA Public Affairs announced the addition of Korean actor Ji Soo to the cast of its primetime action drama series ‘Black Rider.’

“Ang umaatikabong aksyon, itotodo na sa pagdating ng South Korean actor na si Kim Ji Soo,” the official social media accounts of the production group posted.

(“The action will intensify with the arrival of South Korean actor Kim Ji Soo.”)

However, they did not reveal what role the foreign actor will play in the series, but it has been confirmed that he will be siding with the protagonist Elias, portrayed by Ruru Madrid.

The entry of the K-drama star is one of the surprises that await viewers of the series, which is set to conclude its run on July 26, after a more than eight-month-long run.

‘Black Rider’ also serves as Ji Soo’s return to the small screen after his three-year hiatus after a bullying controversy and his enlistment in South Korea’s mandatory military service in 2021.

Prior to that, Ji Soo starred in various Korean drama series, with his most popular roles being 14th Prince Wang Jung in ‘Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo’ and the policeman In Gook Du in ‘Strong Woman Do Bong Soon.’

In late 2023, he uploaded photos on his Instagram account with the captions that include the word “Manila,” which triggered speculations about his future career plans — including debuting in the Philippine entertainment scene.

That rumor was later fuelled further by his appearance as a special guest at the SBTown Music Fiesta event in Manila last April.
