BDO says transactions in viral passbook incident are valid

On Monday, June 24, Philippine banking giant BDO shared some details about the viral passbook incident involving an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) named Glenn Cañete.

According to BDO, they have been able to account all the withdrawals from the OFW, which they later found to be all valid transactions.

“…BDO has been able to account for the withdrawals that caused stress to Mr. Cañete. All withdrawals done by the accountholder online aere verified to be valid.”

Furthermore, “Mr. Cañete advised BDO that they will resolve the matters within their family.”

The bank also said that it “looks after the security of its client and encourages them to maintain the privacy of their accounts.”

In his viral video, Cañete detailed that up to Php 345,000 of his savings meant to fund his child’s education vanished.

This is after the account was connected to online banking, despite his personal decision to enrol only using a passbook.

Cañete’s viral post has since been deleted from social media.
