Schedule Suggestions: Kapamilya Channel (June 2024)

Let’s cross over now to the Kapamilya side.

Let’s cross over now to the Kapamilya side.

Kapamilya Channel, ABS-CBN’s flagship channel, celebrated its fourth anniversary on Thursday, June 13.

Originally launched in 2020, it took over the role of being the flagship channel from the former terrestrial ABS-CBN network, which closed down in May that year due to a cease-and-desist order issued by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

Four years on, the Kapamilya Channel continues to house the network’s major shows, such as ‘It’s Showtime,’ ‘ASAP Natin ‘To,’ ‘TV Patrol,’ and ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,’ among others.

In this special anniversary edition of Schedule Suggestions, we will discuss programming ideas for the pay TV channel.

For the channel’s morning block, it should have even a handful of news programs to complement those seen on the mainstream free-to-air networks.

To supply these shows are the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), which also does provide the delayed telecast of ‘The World Tonight’ every late-evening.

This news block should run from 7:00 to 9:00 am, replacing the current ‘Yey! Weekdays’ block, which only airs past children’s oriented original shows of ABS-CBN — a job that would be better done by sister channel Jeepney TV.

Hence, the shows for the ANC mornings on Kapamilya Channel would be ‘Rundown,’ a repeat of ‘Business Outlook,’ and ‘Headstart with Karen Davila’.

From 9:00 am, the new season of ‘Superbook’ will be immediately followed by ‘Magandang Buhay’ and the ‘Kapamilya Blockbusters’ movie block.

After ‘It’s Showtime,’ as the Kapamilya Gold block still has no original shows to offer at the moment, the channel would have to continue re-airing primetime shows from recent years.

But, instead of rebroadcasting the popular ones, they should be keen to replay those that were either underrated in terms of viewership figures or as demanded by audiences.

After the two-and-half-hour-long rerun block, digital newscast ‘TV Patrol Express’ could be given a television slot, so as to signify the start of the network’s fresh programming slate that will run until late primetime.

This would, however, also spell the end for the ‘Kapamilya Gold Hits’ afternoon movie block, which is not only repetitive in terms of the catalog that it presents, but also a redundancy for the ‘Kapamilya Blockbusters’ morning movie block.

Following that, ABS-CBN Studios could consider doing a companion show to the upcoming ‘Pinoy Big Brother Gen 11’ season, which would air at 5:15 pm.

‘Goin’ Bulilit,’ which is now expected to premiere in July instead of June 17, will get the 5:45 pm slot, as previously announced.

The rest of the Primetime Bida slate will remain intact, as seen in the proposed schedule above.

But, after the delayed telecast of ‘The World Tonight,’ Kapamilya Channel could opt to air lifestyle programming from sister cable channels ANC and Metro Channel, so as to give these programs a rather mainstream pay TV audience.

  • Saturdays
  • 1:30 am – Movie Central Presents
  • 3:30 am – Movie Central Presents
  • 5:00 am – Tomorrow’s World
  • 5:30 am – Kapamilya Daily Mass
  • 6:00 am – Knowledge Channel School Anywhere
  • 7:00 am – Doc Ricky Pedia (rerun)
  • 7:30 am – Team FitFil
  • 8:00 am – Yey! Weekend on Kapamilya Channel
  • 10:00 am – KB Family Weekend
  • 11:30 am – It’s Showtime
  • 2:30 pm – Dirty Linen (rerun) / La Vida Lena (rerun)
  • 3:15 pm – Ipaglaban Mo! (rerun)
  • 4:00 pm – My Puhunan: Kaya Mo!
  • 4:30 pm – Goin’ Bulilit
  • 5:30 pm – TV Patrol Weekend
  • 6:15 pm – Rated Korina
  • 7:15 pm – What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?
  • 8:45 pm – I Can See Your Voice / Pinoy Big Brother
  • 9:45 pm – Count Your Lucky Stars
  • 10:45 pm – The World Tonight (Saturday edition)
  • 11:15 pm – Pia’s Postcards
  • 11:45 pm – Super Kapamilya Blockbusters

On Saturdays, Kapamilya Channel’s morning block shall include an hour of Knowledge Channel’s programming from 6:00 to 7:00 am, similar to the weekday morning block.

At 7:00, replays of ‘Doc Ricky Pedia’ and ‘Team FitFil’ will be seen before the start of the adjusted ‘Yey! Weekend’ block, which, at present, is seen on the KapCha from 6:00 to 7:40 am.

The adjustment will allow the children’s shows to be simultaneously seen on the Kapamilya Channel and A2Z, which currently airs the block from 8:00 to 10:00 am every Saturday.

After the ‘KB Family Weekend’ movie block, similar to the what was seen in the GMA and GTV installments of this special Schedule Suggestions series, ‘It’s Showtime’ should be re-expanded to three hours from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm to compete with rival ‘Eat Bulaga’ on TV5 and RPTV.

Right after that will be the Saturday afternoon block, which would see the axing of the ‘Kapamilya Action Sabado’ movie presentation slot.

After the reruns from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm will be the current affairs show ‘My Puhunan: Kaya Mo!’ and the Saturday edition of ‘Goin’ Bulilit’ at 4:30 pm.

The rest of the Saturday primetime block will remain as is.

But come 10:45 pm, Kapamilya Channel should warm to the idea of also broadcasting on a delayed basis the Saturday edition of ‘The World Tonight,’ which like its weekday counterpart, airs at 9:00 pm on ANC.

Following that should be a lifestyle show, which in this sample is ‘Pia’s Postcards,’ which had already aired on both Metro Channel and ANC anyway.

‘Super Kapamilya Blockbusters’ could be reformatted to also include action movies, aside from its usual horror and thrillers, and air from 11:45 pm.

  • Sundays
  • 1:30 am – Movie Central Presents
  • 3:30 am – Movie Central Presents
  • 5:30 am – Kapamilya Journeys of Hope
  • 6:00 am – The Healing Eucharist
  • 7:00 am – Knowledge Channel School Anywhere
  • 8:00 am – G Diaries
  • 8:30 am – Team FitFil
  • 9:00 am – Yey! Weekend on Kapamilya Channel
  • 10:00 am – KB Family Weekend
  • 12:00 nn – ASAP Natin ‘To
  • 2:15 pm – Sunday Blockbusters
  • 4:00 pm – BINI Road Trip Adventures (TV run)
  • 4:30 pm – Goin’ Bulilit
  • 5:30 pm – TV Patrol Weekend
  • 6:15 pm – Tao Po
  • 7:15 pm – What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?
  • 8:45 pm – I Can See Your Voice / Pinoy Big Brother
  • 9:45 pm – Count Your Lucky Stars
  • 10:45 pm – EIC On The Move or The B Side (alternate/bi-monthly)
  • 11:45 pm – Sunday’s Best [presents Cinema One Originals]

There will be minimal changes in the Sunday morning line-up of the Kapamilya Channel.

The Knowledge Channel block, which has been slotted in the Saturday block, could be trimmed down to 60 minutes on Sundays and air from 7:00 to 8:00 am.

After ‘G Diaries’ and ‘Team FitFil,’ Kapamilya Channel should simulcast ‘Yey! Weekend’ programs that air on A2Z from 9:00 to 10:00 am at present.

Jumping straight to the afternoons, there will also be minor changes to the programs seen on the channel during those hours.

At 4:00 pm, Kapamilya Channel should broadcast on television the reality show ‘BINI Road Trip Adventures’ featuring “The Nation’s Girl Group” BINI, which would help bring in more interest in the trending Filipino pop group of today.

As promoted, ‘Goin’ Bulilit’ would air at 4:30 pm or before the Sunday edition of ‘TV Patrol Weekend.’

Primetime remains mostly intact, with the exception of the 15 minutes added to the runtime of current affairs show ‘Tao Po,’ which should air for a full hour from 6:15 to 7:15 pm.

As a result, the rest of the Sunday night line-up should be adjusted 15 minutes later than their current times.

Such a move will also allow ABS-CBN shows to air simultaneously on TV5, which currently airs 15 minutes behind the Kapamilya Channel every Sunday.

At 10:45 pm, instead of going directly to ‘Sunday’s Best,’ Kapamilya Channel could showcase original content from sister cable channels.

In the sample above, ‘EIC On The Move’ from Metro Channel and ‘The B Side’ from Cinema One could take turns in airing on the slot through a bi-monthly basis.

Speaking of Cinema One, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Philippines’ premium movie channel, Kapamilya Channel could utilize the Sunday’s Best block to air some of the best ‘Cinema One Originals’ independent films from 2005 to 2019.

The Kapamilya Channel has been the network’s flagship television platform since the bitter events of 2020. While it was created during a time filled with uncertainties, it surely does reflect resiliency of the network to continue fulfilling their motto of being “in the service of the Filipino.”

With the recent re-expansion of ABS-CBN’s reach through its major partnerships with erstwhile rivals TV5 and GMA, as well as ALLTV, it had started to become apparent that KapCha has been lagging behind in the choice of viewers who have access to it — evident in the lower viewership figures that it gets now compared to the previous years.

With that, the Kapamilya Channel should be resilient enough to implement numerous changes that would refresh the channel as a single destination for most of ABS-CBN’s premium content on pay television.

While these programs could be readily seen on other platforms, the edge the pay TV channel will certainly have is that these shows have not been part of the same programming grid yet.

In effect, that will help make the Kapamilya Channel a great alternative option to the other choices that the viewers have to catch these shows, and in the greater scheme of things, the channel much more viable.
