TVJ noontime show on TV5 retitled ‘E.A.T. Bulaga!’

After more than five months with TV5.

On December 7, the Kapatid noontime show of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon began with a live link. More importantly, the show’s main trio greeted everyone with a familiar line: “Alas-dose na, EAT… Bulaga na!”a

After which, the ‘Dabarkads’ immediately sang-along to the theme song. Then, the return of the line “isang libo’t isang tuwa, buong bansa… E.A.T… Bulaga!” was also heard.

Aside from that, at the end of the ‘Gimme 5’ and ‘Sugod Bahay Mga Kapatid’ segments in today’s episode, hosts tossed to commercial break by explicitly stating “magbabalik pa ang Eat Bulaga!” (Eat Bulaga will be right back.) All the while, the show’s official title card remained as ‘E.A.T.’

Elsewhere, title of the show’s live and catch-up stream on TVJ’s official YouTube channel was also worded as ‘E.A.T Bulaga’.

The move comes two days after the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) canceled the trademark registration of Television and Production Exponents, Inc. or TAPE, Inc. for sections 16, 18, 21, and 25. Alongside that, the IPO also recognized host Joey de Leon, in particular, as the creator of the title. It also granted their group the exclusive right to register the marks ‘Eat Bulaga’ and ‘EB’.

However, TAPE’s stance has been consistent and that they will still continue using the title ‘Eat Bulaga’ for its own noontime program airing on GMA, as they will appeal the decision on the matter within 15 days and in the succeeding levels, if needed.

This, as their legal counsel have also stated that they will exhaust all legal remedies to reverse the said decision.

With that, at least in the forseeable future, there will be two programs bearing the same title at noontime. The TVJ show on TV5 will go by the stylized name ‘E.A.T. Bulaga,’ while the TAPE program on GMA continues using the title ‘Eat Bulaga’.

Both programs air on the same times as well: Monday to Friday at 12 noon and Saturday at 11:30 am.
