Hilarious ad pokes fun at ‘Sharonian’ culture

From food… to the party’s clown?

On Friday, April 21, a softdrink brand released a funny advertisement as they poked fun at the ‘Sharonian’ culture — generally known as the pagbabalot or the taking out of food from parties.

To up the ante, Sharon Cuneta’s 1982 song ‘Bituing Walang Ningning’, which had the lyrics “balutin mo ako,” was used in the ad. That particular line from the song is actually the reason why the term ‘Sharon(ian)’ was coined to describe the people doing the abovementioned act and the take out itself.

In the said ad, a woman came home from a birthday party of their neighbor Neneth. She then unloads all the items that she got from the party in front of her husband and daughter. It initially started with a plastic bag containing food, then it upgraded to a full-blown food container, before it continued to the wok full of pancit canton.

Visibly, the husband and the daughter could not believe what they’re seeing. But the mother still continued unpacking with a full-sized lechon, a children from the party named Junjun, then the clown, and the singer who sings ‘Bituing Walang Ningning’, before the whole sequence ended with the necessary softdrink bottle (of course that is the brand).

Towards the end of the video, all of them, including the clown and the singer, feast over the food she took home. And a plot twist, her kumare is also inside the bag looking for Junjun.

You can watch the hilarious ad for yourself.

In 2020, the same softdrink brand went viral with a weird advertisement that featured a boy with four glasses on his back asking his family whether he’s adopted or not. Only for the mother to reveal that she is concealing a softdrink bottle inside her head.

That ad was so popular that it had reached television programs abroad, with Ellen DeGeneres reacting to the said ad in her eponymous TV talk show.
